Beacon Hill travels to the southern Chinese province of Guizhou for their new exclusive collection of Sunbrella fabrics, Festival Outdoor. Four boutique patterns are woven into 11 thickly-textured, richly-dyed, high performance Sunbrella® fabrics. The detailing for the Festival Outdoor collection includes inspirations from the hand woven and decorated garments worn by the people of Guizhou during their village festivals.

In developing this small and very important collection for Beacon Hill, it was crucial to remain grounded in the legacy of the people.

Alexis Audette, Beacon Hill’s Vice President adds:

[Guizhou] costumes give voice to their stories…and the fascinating textile narrative of the Guizhou people allows us to present this special artisanry to the design community...bright colors and bold motifs translate beautifully to an elegant outdoor collection.”

The four exclusive patterns in the Beacon Hill Festival Outdoor collection are Kaili Strie, named for Kaili, a major city in Guizhou; Armor Lattice, which represents strength and energy; Mei Festival, for the beautiful and bountiful Mei River; and Nui Fret, an oversized vertical linear pattern. Together, the patterns collide in a cohesive storyline connected in color and texture. For contemporary styling, the collection feels and looks like couture ski resort clothing.

For outdoor use, the 100% acrylic Sunbrella fiber breathes long lasting life into the textiles, with easy maintenance and color fastness. Whether you are decorating a cabin in the mountains, or a seaside retreat, the Festival Outdoor collection portrays a rich, cultural story.

Inspiration for this collection includes a festival jacket, a woven apron, and an embroidered baby sling. The Ge, a group in the Guizhou region are exceptional Batik artisans. Hot wax is used to draw patterns onto the fabric, which is then dyed indigo blue. Once the cloth is dry, the wax is melted again and washed out to leave a beautiful white pattern pressed into the rich navy color. Embroidered panels are created separately and attached at a later time. Some fabrics are either brocaded or cross-stitched and garments often provide more than one technique.

The Guizhou garments are a source of immense pride for the individual artists and their larger, ethnic groups. For Beacon Hill, the Guizhou Festival Outdoor Collection offers 11 luxury, high quality upholstery options for your cabin in the mountains or retreat by the beach.
