During Michel-Etienne Turgot's tenure as the chief administrator of Paris, he commissioned Louis Bretez to create a new map of the city and its suburbs. Bretez, a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, labored over the elaborately detailed plan for years. Indeed, every window, tree, and park is meticulously represented. The Turgot Map was one of the last to be drawn in false perspective
