The Indian Arbre set of fabrics is based on a traditional palampore-hand-painted panels created on the subcontinent and first introduced to Europe in the 17th century. Schumacher describes it as a "quintessential tree of life pattern." These became instant status symbols and have been synonymous with opulence and grandeur ever since. Our version debuted as a successful block-printed linen in the 1920s. This production remains faithful in scale to that original, with lush, large-scale blooms and foliage in beautifully evocative colorations. The F. Schumacher Indian Arbre in Tea (175780) marries deep tones of rust and indigo with an atmospheric old world ground. The rustic color spectrum blends well with most applications and is one of the pillars of the Indian Arbre set.
Mining the archives for its 125th anniversary, Schumacher has pulled together an assortment of its greatest hits, a roundup of its most prized fabrics and wallpapers. Some are nearly identical to the originals while others are re-imagined and re-interpreted and expanded to fit the size of modern homes. With its quality and attention to detail, this collection adds a punctuation mark to the company's 125-year timeline.
