Sunbrella Fabric - Designed for Upholstery, Awning and Marine Applications

Sunbrella fabric got its start in the 1960s by becoming an alternative to cotton in the manufacturing of awnings. Sunbrella fabric is made of acrylic but still maintains a cotton feel that comes with the benefit of being fade-resistant and naturally durable and strong.
By the 1970s, the boating industry started to take notice of the way Sunbrella fabric held up to harsh outdoor conditions and it didn’t take long for boaters to see the benefits. It quickly became the go to choice for many mariners.
Over the next 20 years, the makers of Sunbrella, Glen Raven, worked on perfecting the formula for upholstery fabric, which would require a softer feel than that of its counterpart used in the awning and marine world. Sunbrella upholstery fabric, although it’s meant to be used on outdoor cushions, is finding its way into the interior décor fabric world, with its versatility and ease of maintenance.

Sunbrella Upholstery Fabric
What started as a few hundred solids and stripes has turned into over 1,000 upholstery patterns—some of which are intricate Jacquards and textured woven prints. Although Sunbrella upholstery fabrics are specifically designed to be used in outdoor applications and are made into cushions, pillows, and even drapes, it is becoming increasingly popular to see these upholstery fabrics being used on the inside of the home.
Sunbrella Marine Fabric
Can be used in both boating applications and shade and awning structures. Sunbrella marine grade fabric has been the go-to choice for boaters since the 1970s and it’s easy to tell why since it’s guaranteed not to mildew, fade, deteriorate, or shrink, making it a great all-around choice for use as an outdoor fabric. In addition to the standard Sunbrella marine grade fabric, there is a completely waterproof Sunbrella called Sunbrella PLUS as well as a few patterns that include a soft fleece lining for scratch protection called Sunbrella SUPREME. The Sunbrella CLARITY collection is a fairly new addition with a self cleaning technology added as a coating.
Sunbrella Sling Fabrics
Specifically designed for use in sling chair and sling chaise applications. Using acrylic fibers but combining it with PVC, these sling fabrics are an open weave mesh that allows water to easily pass through. With more and more patterns coming to this collection, sling is the perfect choice, especially for those wanting to re-cover their pool loungers with something fashionable and durable.
