To know a person is to travel with them. Designer, John Robshaw is a living, breathing example of someone who lives his life in travel mode. As a young New York student in the mid 1990’s, he was part of a small group sent to Bombay to sew sequins onto fabric during Fashion Week. After college, he opened a small art studio and became an assistant to prominent Neo-expressionist, Julian Schnabel. Before long, John Robshaw set out for Bangkok. With his years of practical training and a passion for bold expression, he quickly developed his interest in block printing on textiles – a true marriage of art and fashion. By the time John Robshaw moved back to New York in 2001, he was already thinking about home fashion lines. In his Chelsea studio, he began producing his one-of-a-kind block-print Indian bedding and linens. Considered by Robshaw to be his “lifelong fascination,” the art of fabric-making drew him to explore the methods and traditions of cultures around the world. To date, some of the countries John Robshaw has visited and produced his high end designer fabric include: Vietnam, China, Thailand, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and many places throughout India.

Enjoy a virtual trip through the four lush Topi colorways from China, or the six buttery Chattri fabrics from India. The not-so-subtle patterns of 32396 have a Turkish Tie Dye effect, while the earthy Bardi prints are as soft and touchable as an old T-shirt.

By producing my textiles abroad, I get to become a minor character in the lives of the people I work with; take inspiration from what I see and do there and develop relationships with the people who are teaching me. When you look at my textiles, it’s like you've been on a world tour with me."

When you run your hands over John Robshaw’s fabrics, you are immediately drawn to its natural element. The lush feel of the fabric texture combined with the ethnic patterns and rich, bold hues creates an experience all its own. It’s a trip that never ends.

John Robshaw proudly presents his collection for Duralee Fabric. Patio Lane offers 186 different fabrics representing this worldly collection. Many of John Robshaw’s exclusive designs have been carefully translated and built here in the United States and are available now.
